This project seeks to establish a permanent International Center of Voice, ICV, center in Santiago, Chile that may serve as a platform for the creation, promotion and discussion of voice studies in Latin America.
The foundation of a long term center dedicated to theoretical, as well as, practical voice research will allow for the professionalization of this field not only as a key element in the staging process but in the creation of clear, profound and concrete methodologies in terms of vocal pedagogy. It will establish a powerful and dynamic dialogue among those professionals dedicated to voice studies.
To give visibility to voice studies in Chile, means to remove vocal training from its present nowhere land and advances theatre on the whole by creating dynamics of development, identifying the area’s professionals, dealing with research needs and the distribution of materials and information. It would promote a three dimensional perspective of theatre practice by creating the space for practice and research in the Chilean socio-political-cultural context, as a first step and on a Latin American level, further on.
It is in this vein than I propose the creation of a methodology and of local proposals that will ignite a dialogue and exchange capable of crossing borders and of building bridges with centers all over the world.
To establish a ICV base in Chile is to propose the circulation of academic papers, the development of workshops and seminars with local and international professionals and the creation of artistic work stemmed from residencies that raise questions about the body, voice and sound. The project is, thus, divided into three levels:
- Academic: Research
- Creation and Pedagogy: Workshops and Residencies
- Circulation: Dialogue among different professionals and institutions on a global scale.
The implementation of this project also considers an International Voice Conference, hosted by the Universidad Mayor in the first term of the 2015 Chilean academic calendar, where several world renowned institutions will be present, such as: CEUVOZ (México), The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (London) and the ICV (International Center of Voice). It is, within this context, that the center ICV Chile will be launched.
